FAQ and Tips About Playing Golf  at Holly Kai
=================================

Q: How do I join the club and do I have to join the club to play?
A: See the sign “Holly Kai Golf Club Memberships”  in the clubhouse. No, you do not need to be a member to play Holly Kai.

Q: Tell me about the Green Fees.
A: Green fees come in the form of renting a floG! HUD. You can buy 30mins, 2 hours, or 3 hours. The time to complete a 9 hole round will generally be 2 to 3 hours. The best value is the 3 hour price. However the timer starts when you buy time from the vendor, and does not stop if you leave the game.

Q: floG! — ?
A: floG! is the name of the golf game we use here at HollyKai. It was designed by Kanker Greenacre and is currently used exclusively at MarkTwain White’s present and future golf courses.

Q: What are the rules of the game?
A: With a minor exception in the area of Rule 26 of the USGA rulebook (water hazards) on our Ocean Course, we use the rules of golf as outlined by the USGA. Here is a link to a flash presentation of rules: http://www.usga.org/playing/rules/rules_of_golf.html . For our modification of the Water Hazard rules on the Ocean Course please get a copy of the notecard “Water Hazard Rules” available at various places in the Holly Kai complex. Additionally players should follow normal golf etiquette when on the course. See “Hints and Tips” for more information.

Q: What are HMs?
A: HMs are half-meters. We have scaled floG! to produce driver distances that average 120 meters, or 240 half-meters. This distance fits nicely for building golf courses in SL and is easy mental conversion for RL golfers who are use to typical drivers going 240 yards. So just think of HMs as yards and you will be set. Actually normal distances of the clubs are in the notecard in the golf HUD.

Q: What do I do if I run into problems with the course?
A: Minor problems such as a rare momentary lag that causes the hud to react are part and parcel of the SL experience. Not much we can do about that. But if you have some serious issue you can IM us. You can also send an IM to either the Second Life Golf Association or the Holly Kai Golf Club if you are a member of either of those groups.

Q: What’s the deal with the trees and shrubs?
A: Some are phantom. Some are not. Some are phantom but have tree block prims (90% transparent). Yet others have “tree traps” in the branches that catch your ball and drop it to the ground. Keep your eyes open. Small red and white shaped objects are next to most trees with prim blocks (showing the general shape of the block).  Sometimes solid trees and shrubs hurt you by blocking the path of your ball. Other times they catch a ball otherwise headed for the water. Note that you can hit a ball that is right up against at solid tree or shrub as long as you don’t try to hit it through the object.
